The Grade II Star listed Tudor Barn is set in the verdant Well Hall Pleasaunce and it is a real gem of a building. About 500 years old it was almost certainly not designed to be a barn but as an adjunct to the original medieval house which once stood on Moat Island. The moat is still there and the Tudor Barn, which now trades as a bar and restaurant, has a terrace that backs onto it, great for chilling out in spring and summer.
The Tudor Barn is under new ownership and has been very tastefully decorated and refurbished. It's a gastropub, bar and venue. So good to see such a vital part of Eltham’s cultural inheritance experiencing a renaissance. Do go there and drink a toast to Cllr William Barefoot who saved it for us all back in the 1930s.
